USA – GE HealthCare has introduced CareIntellect for Oncology, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence application designed to assist oncologists in diagnosing and treating cancer more efficiently.
This innovative tool aggregates and summarizes patient data, giving healthcare professionals quick access to critical information on disease progression, treatment plans, and clinical trials.
CareIntellect for Oncology aims to ease the burden on oncologists by eliminating the need to sift through vast amounts of healthcare data.
According to Dr. Taha Kass-Hout, GE HealthCare’s Global Chief Science and Technology Officer, healthcare data is notoriously difficult to analyze, with as much as 97% of hospital data going unused.
By automating data summaries and flagging when patients deviate from their treatment plans, CareIntellect helps doctors focus on delivering patient-centered care rather than administrative tasks.
“It’s very time-consuming, very frustrating for these clinicians,” said Dr. Kass-Hout, highlighting the struggles of clinicians dealing with scattered data.
Simplifying the clinical trial process
One standout feature of CareIntellect for Oncology is its ability to streamline the clinical trial matching process.
Traditionally, oncologists must manually search databases, evaluate trial eligibility, and review patient records to find suitable trials.
The new AI tool removes much of this workload, allowing doctors to quickly identify relevant trials for their patients.
“What we’ve done is remove that,” said Chelsea Vane, Vice President of Digital Products at GE HealthCare. “CareIntellect saves oncologists hours of work.”
Optimized for prostate and breast cancer, with more to come
Currently optimized for prostate and breast cancer, CareIntellect for Oncology will be widely available to U.S. healthcare providers in 2025.
The tool, which is cloud-based, promises to enhance efficiency while generating recurring revenue for GE HealthCare.
Notable health organizations, including Tampa General Hospital, are already evaluating the application.
CareIntellect for Oncology is the first offering within GE HealthCare’s CareIntellect brand, which aims to bring together data from multiple systems into a single, unified view.
The application uses generative AI to summarize clinical notes, track treatment adherence, and identify areas for proactive intervention.
In future releases, GE HealthCare plans to expand the CareIntellect platform to address broader operational challenges in healthcare systems, such as delayed patient intake, staff shortages, and resource inefficiencies.
Future AI innovations at GE HealthCare
GE HealthCare is also working on several new AI initiatives, including a tool to predict aggressive breast cancer recurrence and another to help radiologists flag suspicious mammograms more quickly.
Additionally, the company is exploring an AI tool called Health Companion, which uses a team of AI agents to support doctors with insights in radiology, pathology, and genomics.
“Our aim is to elevate the standard of care and get ahead of the overburden of clinicians trying to take care of their patient,” said Dr. Kass-Hout.
