USA – Segmed has entered into a collaboration with Bayer to integrate its advanced real-world imaging data (RWiD) platform into Bayer’s AI Innovation Platform (AIIP).
This partnership aims to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered healthcare applications by providing researchers and developers with access to high-quality, diverse imaging datasets.
The agreement allows organizations—including academic institutions, innovation hubs, healthcare providers, startups, and regulators—to leverage Segmed’s extensive repository of de-identified real-world imaging studies.
These datasets, linked to medical records, are accessible through Segmed’s cohort builder and will now be integrated into Bayer’s cloud-based AIIP.
The AIIP streamlines the development, validation, and deployment of scalable and compliant medical imaging AI software, empowering developers to create impactful solutions that improve patient care.
Segmed’s platform connects with a vast network of healthcare partners, offering millions of de-identified imaging studies.
By pairing this data with Bayer’s expertise in clinical healthcare and regulatory compliance, the partnership has the potential to address critical challenges in medical imaging, including improving patient outcomes, reducing costs, supporting radiologists, and driving innovation.
“Being part of an end-to-end AI developer environment has been a key vision since we founded Segmed,” said Dr. Martin Willemink, Co-founder and CEO of Segmed.
“Through this collaboration with Bayer, we can provide healthcare organizations with purpose-built data to develop AI solutions for radiologists, ultimately improving patient care.”
Medical imaging, which constitutes about 90% of all healthcare data, is a vital tool for diagnosing and managing diseases.
However, the sheer volume of imaging exams—billions produced annually—has overwhelmed radiologists and other healthcare professionals tasked with interpreting these images.
The development of AI-powered tools is critical to manage this workload, but creating such solutions requires access to high-quality, real-world imaging data—a need Segmed’s technology is uniquely positioned to fulfill.
This collaboration not only addresses the challenges of curating and accessing imaging data but also positions both companies to advance the pace of innovation in the healthcare ecosystem.
