Biolinq secures US 100M to advance innovative glucose monitoring patch

USA – San Diego-based health tech company Biolinq has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round to propel its novel intradermal glucose sensor toward FDA approval and commercial launch.

The wearable patch is designed for individuals with Type 2 diabetes who are not on insulin therapy.

Alpha Wave Ventures led the investment, with continued support from existing backers including RiverVest Venture Partners, AXA IM Alts, LifeSci Venture Partners, M Ventures, Hikma Ventures, Aphelion Capital, Taisho Pharmaceutical, and Features Capital.

Biolinq’s device is a coin-sized patch worn on the upper forearm. It employs tiny electrochemical sensors that measure glucose levels just beneath the skin’s surface.

Unlike traditional monitors, this sensor does not require needles or tapping into subcutaneous tissue. The patch also tracks sleep and activity data, providing users with a comprehensive view of their metabolic health.

A standout feature is its color-changing indicator light, offering real-time feedback on glucose levels. This intuitive design aims to simplify glucose monitoring and encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

“Our team has spent the last decade developing a biosensor platform designed to inspire healthier living by providing context around a person’s metabolic health,” said Rich Yang, CEO of Biolinq.

The recent funding will support Biolinq’s transition from development to commercial readiness, following the completion of its U.S. pivotal trial and regulatory submission.

The company plans to expand its team by up to 20% to prepare for the anticipated product launch. Biolinq’s approach has attracted attention for its potential to redefine the biowearables category.

“Biolinq has assembled world-class experts in biosensor technology, consumer electronics, and semiconductor manufacturing to redefine the biowearables category,” said Rick Gerson, Chairman of Alpha Wave Global.
