The combined entity now operates as Sanford Health, encompassing 56 hospitals, over 4,500 providers, and employing approximately 56,000 individuals.

The system serves patients across seven states: South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Leadership and governance structure

As part of the merger, three members from the Marshfield Clinic Health System Board—Dr. George Brown, Thomas Wenzel, and Dr. Maureen McCausland—have joined the Sanford Health Board of Trustees.

Additionally, a regional board of community leaders is being established to oversee operations and strategy within the Marshfield Clinic region.

Despite the merger, the Marshfield brand will continue to be prominent within its region. The Marshfield Clinic region will maintain its identity while integrating into the larger Sanford Health system.

This approach ensures that local communities retain familiar healthcare services and leadership while benefiting from the expanded resources and capabilities of the combined organization.

Additionally, Sanford Health has committed to a US $500 million investment in the Marshfield Clinic region over the next five years.

This investment will focus on expanding services, enhancing facilities, and integrating innovative technologies to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
