JHAH opens oncology center in GCC

SAUDI ARABIA – Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has launched a new Oncology Center of Excellence in Saudi Arabia, marking a major step forward in specialized cancer care for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

This new facility is part of a growing effort to respond to alarming projections that cancer cases in the GCC will rise by more than 140% between 2020 and 2040.

The center brings together the internationally respected cancer care expertise of Johns Hopkins Medicine with Saudi Arabia’s expanding medical infrastructure.

It focuses on the most common cancers in the region- breast, colorectal, and prostate- and aims to deliver comprehensive, world-class care close to home for GCC patients.

This initiative is an extension of the long-standing partnership between Aramco and Johns Hopkins Medicine, now over a decade strong.

It blends global best practices with healthcare strategies tailored to the specific needs and demographics of the GCC.

At the core of the center’s approach is a full spectrum of services: early detection, precise diagnosis, advanced treatments, and ongoing support for survivors.

Using evidence-based clinical protocols and advanced technologies from Johns Hopkins’ research in the U.S., the center ensures that patients receive the highest standards of care.

A dedicated team of specialists works together across disciplines to create personalized treatment plans for each patient.

Dr. Michael Walsh, CEO of JHAH, highlighted the significance of the center’s launch, calling it a milestone in regional healthcare. “This center reflects our joint vision with Johns Hopkins Medicine to improve patient care in Saudi Arabia and across the GCC,” he said.

The establishment of this center showcases how international collaboration can lead to high-impact local results.

By using proven medical practices and the latest cancer technologies, JHAH is making high-quality oncology care more accessible within the region.

Dr. Walsh added, “This facility proves that with the right partnerships, we can transform healthcare delivery. Patients no longer need to travel abroad for expert cancer treatment—world-class care is now available right here in the GCC.”

This development also supports wider healthcare goals across the Gulf, which include reducing the need for outbound medical travel and building local centers of excellence.
