USA — AdventHealth, a prominent faith-based, nonprofit health system, has completed its $260 million acquisition of ShorePoint Health from Community Health Systems (CHS), expanding its footprint in Southwest Florida.
The transaction, effective March 1, 2025, includes the 254-bed ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte hospital, now renamed AdventHealth Port Charlotte, along with associated physician clinics, outpatient services, and the ShorePoint Health Emergency Department in Cape Coral.
Additionally, the deal encompasses certain assets of the 208-bed ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda facility.
However, this hospital remains closed due to significant damage sustained during Hurricanes Helene and Milton in late 2024.
CHS had previously announced the permanent closure of the Punta Gorda site following the storms.
Strategic expansion for AdventHealth
This acquisition aligns with AdventHealth’s strategic goal to enhance healthcare access in underserved regions.
By integrating ShorePoint Health’s facilities and services, AdventHealth aims to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to the communities of Charlotte County and surrounding areas.
“We are committed to delivering whole-person care and are excited to extend our mission to the residents of Southwest Florida,” said Terry Shaw, President and CEO of AdventHealth.
The integration of ShorePoint Health into the AdventHealth system is expected to bring enhanced medical services, advanced technologies, and a patient-centered approach to care.
AdventHealth plans to assess the healthcare needs of the Punta Gorda community to determine the best use of the acquired assets in that area.
Local officials and community members have expressed optimism about the transition, anticipating improved healthcare services and economic benefits resulting from the acquisition.
Background on the transaction
The agreement between AdventHealth and CHS was initially announced on November 22, 2024. The final purchase price of US $260 million reflects adjustments made following the decision to permanently close the Punta Gorda hospital due to hurricane damage.
CHS, based in Franklin, Tennessee, continues to operate healthcare facilities across multiple states but has been divesting certain assets to streamline operations and focus on core markets.
