USA – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking qualified candidates to fill upcoming vacancies on the National Mammography Quality Assurance Advisory Committee, a group under the Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
According to a recent announcement on January 6, the agency is accepting nominations for voting members who possess significant expertise in mammography, either through clinical practice, research specialization, or professional focus.
The committee, comprising 15 members, plays a critical role in advising the FDA on mammography standards and regulations.
Most recently, it recommended amendments to the Mammography Quality Standards Act, leading to the implementation of a new rule requiring imaging facilities to inform women about their breast density.
This regulation officially took effect on September 10, underscoring the committee’s influence in shaping mammography guidelines.
Eligible candidates must be physicians, practitioners, or health professionals with a substantial focus on mammography. Committee members may serve terms of up to four consecutive years.
Nominations, whether self-submitted or made on behalf of others, must include a resume with current contact details and a signed acknowledgment and consent form from the FDA. If nominating another individual, it is necessary to notify the nominee beforehand.
The nomination process begins on February 1, with priority consideration given to applications submitted by March 7.
However, nominations received after this date will still be reviewed for future openings. Interested individuals can submit their applications electronically through the FDA’s Advisory Nomination Portal.
