Fujifilm and EndoSim collaborate to enhance advanced endoscopy training (1)

USA – FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation has announced a strategic partnership with EndoSim, a company specializing in endoscopic simulation, to broaden the availability of EndoGel, an innovative training model that replicates human tissue characteristics.

This collaboration aims to provide endoscopists with a realistic platform to practice complex procedures such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).

As part of this agreement, Fujifilm will transfer its exclusive U.S. distributorship rights of EndoGel to EndoSim, thereby expanding access to this essential training tool across the market.

The impetus for this partnership stems from a recognized training gap in the United States concerning ESD and POEM procedures.

These advanced, minimally invasive techniques are more prevalent in Asian healthcare settings, and their adoption in the U.S. has been limited partly due to the scarcity of suitable practice materials.

Traditional training has relied on live animal or cadaver tissues, which present logistical and ethical challenges.

By introducing EndoGel to the U.S. market in July 2022, Fujifilm sought to address this issue by offering a synthetic, yet lifelike, alternative for procedural rehearsal.

EndoGel is engineered to mimic the tactile properties of human tissue involved in ESD and POEM procedures, providing clinicians with a realistic simulation experience. This allows endoscopy professionals to:

  • Practice marking and injecting
  • Perform circumferential incisions
  • Conduct submucosal dissection, myotomy, and clipping

The use of EndoGel facilitates the development of essential skills in a controlled environment, potentially leading to improved patient outcomes.

This partnership underscores Fujifilm’s ongoing commitment to advancing endoscopic education and patient care. In addition to the EndoSim collaboration, Fujifilm has been proactive in enhancing training opportunities for healthcare professionals.

Notably, the company has launched standardized Basic Colonoscopy Training Courses across 16 countries in the Growth Emerging Markets (GEM) region.

These intensive two-day programs combine theoretical learning with hands-on practice, equipping participants with the skills necessary to perform colonoscopy procedures confidently and effectively.

Furthermore, Fujifilm has collaborated with the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) to upgrade the ASGE’s Institute for Training and Technology with state-of-the-art endoscopic imaging solutions.
