USA – GE HealthCare has unveiled the Pristina Via, an innovative mammography system aimed at improving breast imaging workflows and patient care.
The new system made its debut at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2024 Annual Meeting, tackling critical challenges like the nationwide shortage of technologists, with vacancy rates surging to 18% this year, according to the
Built on the patient-focused Senographe Pristina platform, the Pristina Via incorporates cutting-edge features that prioritize speed, accuracy, and ease of use.
Notable advancements include zero-click acquisition, eliminating delays between exposures, and vendor-neutral prior image comparison, allowing seamless assessments across platforms.
The system delivers up to twice the imaging speed of other mammography technologies while maintaining the lowest radiation dose for all breast thicknesses.
Additionally, its reliability is backed by a 99% uptime, supported by GE HealthCare’s service contracts.
These enhancements reduce repetitive tasks, empowering mammography technologists to deliver personalized, high-quality care, even as staffing shortages persist.
GE HealthCare highlighted that while the number of women seeking mammograms remains steady, the growing technologist vacancies create gaps in care—a challenge Pristina Via aims to address.
“Our mission is to empower technologists with tools that reduce repetitive tasks while ensuring compassionate, patient-centered care,” said Jyoti Gupta, PhD, President and CEO of Women’s Health and X-ray at GE HealthCare.
By automating workflows, Pristina Via enables technologists to focus more on their patients and less on operational hurdles.
Developed in collaboration with over 250 technologists through interviews and clinical observations, the Pristina Via directly addresses the increasing demands of modern healthcare.
“Innovations like the Pristina Via not only improve workflow efficiency but also enhance patient compliance and expand access to critical screenings,” said Dr. John Simon, CEO of SimonMed.
Broader innovations in medical imaging
GE HealthCare’s launch of Pristina Via is part of its ongoing commitment to advancing imaging technologies.
Earlier this year, the company partnered with DeepHealth, a subsidiary of RadNet, to develop AI-powered SmartTechnology tools that enhance imaging interpretation, reporting, and team collaboration.
In October, it unveiled CareIntellect for Oncology, a cloud-based platform that integrates multimodal patient data to provide clinicians with a comprehensive view, supported by generative AI.
Additionally, GE HealthCare is leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to create AI-driven workflows that enhance diagnostic accuracy, streamline operations, and improve equitable care access.
Through strategic use of tools like Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, GE HealthCare is modernizing healthcare technology with proprietary AI applications.
Meanwhile, Siemens Healthineers, a major competitor in the mammography field, achieved FDA premarket approval in September for its Mammomat B.brilliant system.
This advanced 3D tomosynthesis imaging technology complements its existing portfolio, highlighting the fierce competition in the breast imaging space.
GE HealthCare’s Pristina Via sets a new standard in mammography, blending advanced technology with patient-centric solutions to bridge gaps in care and redefine breast imaging workflows.
