GE HealthCare unveils Versana Premier, its latest ultrasound imaging system

USA – US healthcare giant, GE HealthCare has introduced the latest addition to its Versana ultrasound family, the Versana Premier.

This state-of-the-art system is designed to serve the diverse needs of healthcare professionals across various clinical fields, including general practice, obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN), musculoskeletal (MSK), and cardiology.

The Versana Premier offers cutting-edge automation and AI-enabled tools aimed at improving workflow, clinical accuracy, and patient care.

The Versana Premier provides a user-friendly platform that simplifies diagnostic imaging for clinicians in primary care, where the demand for faster, more accurate diagnostic tools is growing.

According to Phil Rackliffe, President and CEO of Ultrasound and Image Guided Therapies at GE HealthCare, “The rising demand for imaging has driven the increasing use of ultrasound in primary care.

Ultrasound is emerging as a key tool in these clinical settings, enabling accelerated diagnoses and improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.”

Rackliffe further emphasized the significance of Versana Premier’s innovations: “Versana Premier is equipped with advanced automated workflow and productivity tools, including educational resources, that can support these clinicians who are often the frontline of disease identification and diagnosis for their patients.”

Cutting-edge technology for enhanced imaging and workflow

The Versana Premier system is powered by VisionBoost Architecture, supported by high-performance probes like the XDclear technology.

Its upgraded imaging engine delivers high-quality images at impressive speeds. The real-time optimization tool, Whizz, further enhances the imaging experience, continuously optimizing while scanning to ensure clear and accurate visuals.

For color adjustments, clinicians can use Whizz Color Flow to dynamically adjust imaging color during scanning.

The system also includes advanced OBGYN imaging tools, such as Whizz RenderLive and V-Live 2.0, which allow for precise 3D and 4D imaging, especially useful in monitoring fetal development.

Dr. Martin Altersberger, Director of Echo Laboratory at State Hospital Steyr in Austria, praised the system’s simplicity and efficiency: “Versana Premier is remarkably user-friendly, and image quality in B-Mode is easy to optimize, making it possible to create amazing images.

The ultrasound system integrates advanced functions with optimized image quality and educational resources, which can be used in various settings. It can, therefore, adequately support clinicians in a wide range of assessments and diagnoses.”

AI-powered features for faster, more accurate diagnostics

Incorporating artificial intelligence, the Versana Premier aims to reduce time spent on routine tasks.

Whizz Label automates the labeling of critical organs such as the right kidney, gallbladder, and liver, while Whizz Follicle assists clinicians in volume calculations and measurements.

With these features, healthcare providers can improve their efficiency by up to 38% in workflow speed, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

The launch of Versana Premier comes just weeks after GE Healthcare introduced its Venue point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) systems, including the Venue Sprint, a new tablet-based device.

Expanding the capabilities of ultrasound with AI and automation

GE HealthCare continues to integrate AI into its offerings, as evidenced by its recent launch of the Voluson Signature 20 and 18 ultrasound systems in April, which also incorporate AI and ergonomic design.

The Voluson Signature 20 and 18 systems, which focus on enhancing women’s health diagnostics. These systems feature AI-driven tools like:

  • Hey Voluson: Voice command functionality for hands-free operation.
  • SonoLyst: AI that identifies and measures fetal anatomy in real-time.
  • SonoPelvicFloor: A feature that automates pelvic floor assessments, reducing manual keystrokes by up to 76%.
  • Fibroid Mapping: AI-powered mapping and classification of fibroids.
  • fetalHS: Step-by-step guidance for fetal heart assessments, increasing efficiency by up to 48%.

Additionally, GE HealthCare’s Vscan Air CL wireless dual probe will be integrated with these systems, enhancing workflow flexibility through wireless operation.
