Johnson & Johnson unveils VOLT system for improved fracture care

USA – Johnson & Johnson MedTech, a global leader in orthopaedic technologies and solutions, has launched its revolutionary VOLT (Variable Angle Optimized Locking Technology) plating system marking a significant advancement in fracture management.

This cutting-edge system is designed to enhance stability, improve surgical performance, and increase efficiency, making it a standout in trauma care solutions.

The VOLT plating system introduces a host of features aimed at improving surgical outcomes for patients.

Its optimized locking technology enhances construct stability by using precision threaded locking, which allows for better engagement between plates and screws.

The system supports variable angles, offering flexibility while maintaining the stability typically provided by traditional Locking Compression Plates.

In addition, VOLT includes an expanded range of plate shapes, lengths, and screw sizes to cater to various fracture fixation needs, reducing the risk of soft tissue irritation. Its low-profile design minimizes prominence, addressing a common challenge with other plating systems.

Innovative design for enhanced surgical efficiency

To further streamline the surgical process, the VOLT system features a versatile tray design capable of accommodating multiple set configurations depending on clinical requirements.

Color-coded instruments are included to simplify identification, contributing to better workflow efficiency in the operating room.

The system is available in both stainless steel and titanium, offering surgeons the flexibility to choose the material most suitable for their procedures.

With FDA clearance secured for its VOLT Mini and Small Fragment plating systems, J&J plans to expand its product range by 2025, introducing distal radius and proximal humerus versions alongside additional anatomical plating solutions.

Commitment to innovation in trauma care

Aldo Denti, the Group Chair of Orthopedics at Johnson & Johnson MedTech, emphasized the company’s longstanding dedication to advancing fracture management.

“The launch of the VOLT plating system underscores our leadership in trauma care and exemplifies our commitment to providing the most comprehensive solutions to achieve the best possible patient outcomes,” Denti said.

Expanding the foot and ankle care portfolio

In related news, Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Synthes unit recently launched the TriLeap Lower Extremity Anatomic Plating System, designed for foot and ankle surgery.

The TriLeap system, which received FDA clearance in 2023, includes procedure-specific titanium plates for reconstructive and trauma procedures in the forefoot and midfoot areas.

Dr. Michael Campbell, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, praised the system for meeting the diverse demands of the operating room, enhancing patient care, and enabling greater surgical precision.

Oray Boston, the Worldwide President of DePuy Synthes Trauma, noted that TriLeap aligns with J&J’s strategy to provide comprehensive solutions for foot and ankle reconstruction, helping patients recover more quickly.
