NETHERLANDS – Philips has deepened its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to advance cloud-based diagnostic imaging and artificial intelligence capabilities.
The collaboration aims to integrate radiology, pathology, cardiology, and AI-powered tools into a seamless, cloud-hosted platform, enabling healthcare providers to streamline workflows, enhance diagnostics, and improve patient care globally.
Building on their collaboration that began in 2023, Philips and AWS have already migrated over 150 healthcare sites across North and Latin America to Philips’ HealthSuite Imaging platform on AWS.
Now, the focus shifts to scaling the platform across Europe. HealthSuite Imaging, a cloud-based picture archiving and communication system (PACS), centralizes patient scans and clinical data to streamline access and sharing of vital information among healthcare providers.
By migrating to the cloud, the platform reduces reliance on physical hardware and data centers, offering healthcare systems greater flexibility, improved efficiency, and potential cost savings.
The collaboration will incorporate AWS’s generative AI capabilities to enhance diagnostic processes and reduce administrative burdens.
Using Amazon’s Bedrock foundation models, Philips plans to automate routine tasks like generating structured medical reports from clinicians’ notes in real time.
These tools aim to simplify radiologists’ workflows, offering decision-making support and faster, more accurate diagnoses.
“By combining Philips’ informatics portfolio with AWS’s generative AI technology, clinicians can deliver more effective care from anywhere while maintaining robust security and privacy,” said AWS CEO Matt Garman.
Philips CEO Roy Jakobs emphasized that the partnership’s mission is to improve workflow efficiency and “give back valuable time to healthcare providers.”
This expanded partnership comes as AWS strengthens its footprint in healthcare, following competitors Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
AWS’s investments in healthcare cloud platforms and AI tools signal a broader trend in the medtech and pharma industries, where technology giants are increasingly collaborating to reshape medical data management and diagnostics.
Through initiatives like this, Philips and AWS aim to reduce the cognitive burden on healthcare professionals while advancing patient care.
