Additionally, the company will replace Alberta’s aging imaging equipment with advanced technologies, significantly improving diagnostic capabilities.

The initiative will create the Learning Centre of Excellence in Cancer Care at the Arthur JE Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary and an AI Centre of Excellence in Edmonton.

These centres will focus on oncology training, AI integration, and machine learning (ML) applications to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

The Learning Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for educating healthcare professionals, incorporating technological advancements and virtual learning to support workers in rural and remote areas.

Meanwhile, the AI Centre of Excellence will leverage Alberta’s strengths in data science to optimize oncology operations and care delivery.

Moreover, Siemens Healthineers and the Alberta Cancer Foundation have contributed C$48 million to establish a medical research and innovation fund aimed at supporting oncology advancements.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation will oversee the fund, identifying innovative projects to drive progress in cancer care.

Alberta’s Minister of Health, Adriana LaGrange, stated, “This partnership will reduce wait times and patient expenses while increasing capacity across the healthcare system.

“It will also provide a significant return on investment into targeted oncology areas like education, research, AI, and ML to better support patients and our workforce.”

The initiative is expected to commence immediately, promising significant improvements in patient care, training, and technological advancement throughout Alberta’s cancer care network.
