Siemens Healthineers unveils first U.S. installation of Mammomat B.brilliant mammography system

USA – Siemens Healthineers has unveiled the first U.S. installation of its advanced mammography system, the Mammomat B.brilliant.

Grace Breast Imaging & Medical Spa, located in Clive and Urbandale within the Des Moines metro area of Iowa, is introducing this cutting-edge 3D technology.

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last year, the Mammomat B.brilliant marks Siemens Healthineers’ first fully redesigned mammography platform in more than ten years.

The Mammomat B.brilliant incorporates advanced 3D image acquisition and reconstruction technology and features for full-field digital mammography, breast biopsy, and titanium contrast-enhanced mammography.

Dr. Andrea Lamphiear, Founder of GRACE Breast Imaging & Medical Spa, shared that their decision to adopt the new system was driven by Siemens Healthineers’ cutting-edge technology, which offers superior image quality for early breast cancer detection.

We believe this will best help us expand our vision of providing individualized breast care in a wellness-based and serene environment, making healthcare feel like self-care, while also allowing us, as radiologists, to have the best chance of finding breast cancer at its earliest stage,” she said in the press release.

Niral Patel, Vice President of X-ray Products at Siemens Healthineers, also commented on the significance of the installation, expressing pride in GRACE Breast Imaging & Medical Spa becoming the first U.S. adopter of the system.

Siemens Healthineers is proud to have GRACE Breast Imaging & Medical Spa be the first U.S. adopter of our revolutionary Mammomat B.brilliant mammography system, which sets new standards for screening and diagnostic excellence in breast imaging while also delivering high levels of patient and operator comfort,” he added.

The Mammomat B.brilliant features the PlatinumTomo 3D technology, which allows for the widest angle available in tomosynthesis at 50 degrees.

This innovation enables the system to perform wide-angle tomosynthesis acquisitions in under five seconds, helping to separate overlapping layers of breast tissue and reveal otherwise obscured lesions.

According to Siemens Healthineers, this feature is essential for better visualization of microcalcifications.

Additionally, the system’s fast detector and new X-ray tube use flying focal-spot technology, adapted from Siemens Healthineers’ computed tomography scanners, which further enhances the quality of breast imaging.

Siemens Healthineers highlighted that the UltraHD image reconstruction technology reduces metal artifacts, improving the clarity of calcifications, while also providing customizable image settings.

Furthermore, the system generates a synthetic 2D image without additional radiation exposure to the patient, eliminating the need for full-field digital mammography images.

Other upgrades focus on improving patient comfort, enhancing user workflow, and offering better ergonomics compared to the Mammomat Revelation system.
