USA – NAMSA, a leading contract research organization (CRO) based in Toledo, Ohio, has completed its acquisition of WuXi AppTec’s U.S.-based medical device testing operations.
This strategic move significantly enhances NAMSA’s capabilities in the medtech testing, clinical, and regulatory consulting sectors.
The acquisition brings together two established entities in the field of medical device biological safety testing, a domain that serves over 4,000 manufacturers globally.
Lisa Olson, NAMSA’s Senior Vice President of Global Laboratory Services, highlighted the expanded expertise and capacity resulting from the merger.
“Together, we now have unmatched scientific expertise in biocompatibility, microbiology, preclinical, and extractables and leachables testing,” she stated.
“With the addition of WuXi AppTec’s medical device testing facilities in the U.S., we now have more scientists, more lab capacity, and more expertise with a wider variety of medical devices than any other company.”
This acquisition is part of NAMSA’s broader strategy to expand its footprint beyond biological safety testing. Since 2021, the company has acquired six firms focused on preclinical and clinical research, underscoring its commitment to providing comprehensive support to medical device manufacturers.
Brian Smith, NAMSA’s newly appointed CEO, emphasized the significance of this acquisition in the company’s growth trajectory.
“This acquisition is part of our larger strategy to broaden our service offering and solidify our position as the go-to resource for manufacturers bringing new lifesaving technologies to market while upholding the same high standards of client-focused service you have come to expect from NAMSA,” he remarked.
Founded in 1967, NAMSA has been instrumental in providing testing, clinical, and regulatory services to medical device manufacturers, aiding in product development and commercialization.
The integration of WuXi AppTec’s U.S. operations is expected to further strengthen NAMSA’s position in the industry, offering enhanced services to its clients.
