SHINE, Sumitomo team up to boost fusion isotope supply in Asia

USA – SHINE Technologies, a U.S.-based fusion technology company, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA) to distribute SHINE’s fusion-based products in Japan and other Asian markets.

This strategic partnership aims to enhance the availability of critical medical isotopes and advanced imaging technologies across the region.

The collaboration focuses on establishing supply chains for SHINE’s core offerings, including medical isotopes like lutetium-177 (Lu-177) and molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), neutron imaging systems, and advanced materials testing solutions.

These isotopes are essential in diagnosing and treating conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Additionally, the partnership will assess regulatory and logistical frameworks necessary for the cross-border transportation of radioisotopes.

“This strategic partnership with SCOA opens vital channels to bring our fusion-based technologies to Asian markets,” said Greg Piefer, founder and CEO of SHINE.

“Combining their deep market knowledge and established distribution networks with our innovative production methods strengthens international supply chains for nuclear medicine, neutron imaging, and irradiation services while advancing our long-term vision of harnessing fusion to solve humanity’s most pressing energy challenges.”

SHINE’s Lu-177, used in targeted cancer therapies, has already seen commercial uptake. The company also provides neutron imaging services for non-destructive testing in sectors such as aerospace and defense.

Shinichi “Sandro” Hasegawa, general manager of the energy innovation initiative Americas at SCOA, emphasized the collaboration’s potential impact: “By combining our extensive market reach and logistics capabilities with SHINE’s groundbreaking fusion technology, we can strengthen supply chains across multiple industries and contribute to a cleaner energy future across Asia.”

Should the market evaluation prove successful, SCOA will assume an official sales role for SHINE in select Asian territories.
